Utilizing media to equip men and women in mind, character, and faith to impact their world for Jesus Christ.
Lee and Beth Schafer founded Inspirational Family Radio in May, 1983. Lee’s interest in radio and electronics began early in his life. He built his first radio at age seven, and earned his amateur radio license when he was ten years old. He pursued his love and learning of radio by achieving his First Class License while in college.
After purchasing KSPD 790 AM in 1983, they bought KBXL 94.1FM in 1989 and KDZY 98.3FM in 2001. Lee realized his dream and passion for radio by working with his family and many terrific employees. His passion for radio was superseded only by his love for God and for his family. He realized radio was a tool to spread the Gospel and wanted to continue that goal by persevering even when the path of financial expediency would have been to sell the stations.
On September 9, 2008, God called Lee into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Beth continues to lead the organization as it continues to be part of God’s transforming power in the lives of people. One of Lee’s favorite verses and part of Inspirational Family Radio’s mission is Isaiah 55:10-11: “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Inspirational Family Radio celebrates 35 years of broadcasting in 2018. Much has occurred in the past ten years, including the purchase of the company’s newest station, Star 95.5FM in 2014. In a letter to listeners, Beth Schafer said, “It is with great thankfulness to God’s faithfulness that we celebrate this milestone. Throughout the past 35 years, we have known struggles and triumphs. However, one thing remains constant as we move forward, we walk humbly before a loving God, knowing He will provide tomorrow as he has today and yesterday.
Great is God’s faithfulness!”
